13 Pros & Cons Exposed of Jasper AI Art + How-To
We recently had the chance to play around with Jasper AI Art, the new art image generator that’s been making waves in the creative community. Overall, we were impressed with its capabilities—but there were also a few things that we need to keep in mind to get the best results. Here’s our two cents on the Jasper AI Art: what we loved and what could use some work, to help you decide for yourself if it’s worth checking out.
I first came across AI to assist in content creation. I googled AI writer one day, in hopes of finding something that would help me write faster and better. After all, content creation often requires writing substantial numbers of blog posts.
I found several AI writer options that I tried with disappointing results, before setting my eyes on Jasper AI. The amount of content I can pump out has been a factor in increasing our web users and sessions by 150%. How? Creating content is faster! We consistently publish 1 post a week, but with Jasper AI we can write 2-3 blog posts a week.
Fast forward to the fall of 2022, Jasper.AI launches Jasper.Ai Art!
Of course I had to try it! I’m a sucker for tools that will help small businesses and marketing.
After playing with the prompts, I have compiled some example artwork I was able to produce using the AI image generator Jasper.Ai Art. Keep scrolling to see the results!
How to Make AI Generated Images using Jasper AI Art?
Jasper.AI Art is simple to use! Start with activating a Jasper subscription. You can view Jasper’s subscription plans here.
We use Jasper Boss Mode (for the AI writer) with the Jasper Art add-on. You can subscribe just to Jasper Art if you scroll down on their pricing page. At the moment, Jasper Art is $20/mo/user. It only takes minutes to set-up and running!
Once you’re got a subscription, follow these 4 steps to create your first AI art.
Steps to Create AI Art with Jasper
1. Click on “Art” in the left column
2. Select “Basic” or “Freeform”
The basic setting is a good start point. Fill in a description (ex. a unicorn jumping over a rainbow).
Then it guides you with options to select the style, medium, artist/style, mood and keywords. Here are some of the options you can select:
- Style: Abstract, Illustration, Line Art, Pop Art, or Retro
- Medium: Acrylics, Charcoal, Crayon, Pencil Sketch, Spray Paint, or Watercolour Painting
- Artist/Style: Andy Warhol, Dr. Seuss, Pablo Picasso, Pixar or Van Gogh
- Mood: Agressive, Bright, Cheerful, Colourful, Dark, Energetic, Lifeless, Peaceful or Relaxed
These are all examples of the commands you can give Jasper Art. Once you’ve got the hang of the capabilities you can use the “Freeform”.
Click on freeform setting at the top of the page. This setting offers a description box only. Enter in a description along with commands for the style, mood, artist etc. Be sure to use a comma between each command (ex. ice cream in waffle cone, blue background, colourful).
Freeform allows you to be more adventurous and creative with your commands. You can also add in multiple keywords to help Jasper Art create the image you have in mind.
Not sure what commands to use? Try their “Roll those dice” or “Something fun that slays” feature! This generates a command at random so you can see Jasper Art’s capabilities.
3. Click on “Create”
Now the fun part! After you click on “Create” it takes Jasper Art a few seconds to generate the image.
Jasper Art produces 4 images for you to choose from.
Don’t like what it produced? Go back to your description and make some changes to try again.
Download Options
If you do like an image, click to copy the image to your clipboard or click the “Download” button. The download sizes are 512×512, 1024×1024 or 2048×2048.
Jasper Art mentions that upscaling your artwork to 1024×1024 or 2048×2048 is an Upscale Beta that is FREE at the moment. They warn that this could be an upgrade in the future:
“By the way, image upscaling is pretty expensive but we wanted to let you try it. We run the image through advanced computer vision algorithms that can increase the size and quality.

Jasper Art is used for it’s generated images but also as inspiration to creative artists! A wide range of people use AI generated art including:
Graphic designers
Artists
Businesses
Product managers
Marketing teams
Writers
Now let’s get into what we loved and didn’t love about Jasper Art. Spoiler alert – the pros far outweigh the cons!
What We Loved About Jasper Art
The process is simple and fun! We were able to quickly create several pieces of artwork with very little effort. The results were pretty amazing considering we just had to type in a few keywords.
Ease of Use
Jasper Art is extremely easy to use. You don’t need any prior experience with image generators or artificial intelligence—anyone can pick it up and start creating impressive art in minutes. Once you’ve set up a Jasper.Ai Art subscription, you are ready to start creating images!
Time to Generate Images
Need an image? Boom it’s done.
It takes merely seconds to input a command, click a button and have ai images created in a flash! This is a huge plus if you’re working on a tight deadline.
Quality of Images
Once you’ve mastered the commands, the results are will blow you away!
Inspiration
It’s a great way to generate ideas for your next project. If you’re feeling stuck, Jasper AI can help jumpstart your creativity by giving you a starting point to work from.
Infinite Variations
Jasper AI doesn’t just create one static image—it creates an entire series of images based on your initial input. And if the artwork doesn’t match your visions, tweak a few words and soon you’ll have what you’re looking for.
For now, it seems there are no limits to how many requests and images you can generate. So keep inputting commands and clicking the generate button to your content!
Multiple Uses
Jasper Art is flexible enough to create images for any purpose, whether it’s creating stock images, marketing materials, artwork, or generating ideas for a project.
What are the cons of Jasper Art?
Perfecting Humans
We found that some images are distorted such as human faces, hands, even limbs. Faces can look melty, hands can have more or less digits and limbs can be missing. It can do faces well using prompts like “close-up” and “detailed”. Famous people seem to be easier for Jasper Art to generate, likely because there is lots of references for it to pull from on the internet.
Here’s what Jasper said about faces:
“Faces: Human faces may sometimes look melty or distorted. Don’t be alarmed. You may just need to adjust your inputs for a more specific result.”
Words are Warped
I noticed some results produced text which was quite random and at times not even real words. Here’s what Jasper said about words:
“Words: Jasper struggles to spell words correctly, so you may see some interesting outputs if you ask for an infographic or meme”
Addictive Fun!
It can be addictive (and we’re not even sure this is a con!). Once you start playing around with Jasper Art, it’s hard to stop. We found ourselves spending hours upon hours tinkering with different settings and seeing what we could create. If you’re not careful, it’s easy to lose track of time when you’re using this tool.
Mastering the Commands
It’s not always clear how Jasper AI arrived at a particular result. Since the algorithms are constantly learning and evolving, sometimes the results can be unpredictable—which isn’t always desirable when you’re trying to create something specific.
Learning what prompts work well can be a bit of a learning curve. Although, some quick research and practice, you’ll be a pro in no time!
Copyright & Legal Issues
Another potential downside is that (as of now), you can’t claim copyright over AI generated images. According to the Smithsonian Magazine, “An image generated through artificial intelligence lacked the “human authorship” necessary for protection”. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/us-copyright-office-rules-ai-art-cant-be-copyrighted-180979808/
There are some legalities that haven’t been solidified with the use of AI generated images that has sparked some companies to ban AI art. Getty images has taken a stance against AI-generated images being used, while Shutterstock seems to be embracing it.
Craig Peters, CEO of Getty Images says to the Verge, “There are real concerns with respect to the copyright of outputs from these models and unaddressed rights issues with respect to the imagery, the image metadata and those individuals contained within the imagery”.
Shutterstock on the other hand is banning third-party AI art but offering its own DALL-E AI integration. “In a press statement, Shutterstock’s CEO Paul Hennessy said: “The mediums to express creativity are constantly evolving and expanding. We recognize that it is our great responsibility to embrace this evolution and to ensure that the generative technology that drives innovation is grounded in ethical practices.”” ~ The Verge
Selling AI-Generated Art
If you’re hoping to sell your AI-generated artwork, you might have some difficulty. Since the copyright of these images is unclear, it might be hard to find a buyer who’s willing to take a chance on an image that could potentially get them into legal trouble down the road.
However, this could be changing as some creative outlets like Shutterstock are embracing AI technology.
Pricing
Jasper AI is not free under the AI writing subscription. The service costs an additional $20 USD per month/user. However, considering the time it saves and the quality of results you get, we think it’s well worth the price.
Overall, we think the price is fair considering all the features you get access. Check out our post on Jasper AI Pricing: Is it Worth the Cost?
What is the Future of AI Image Generators?
Here’s a few things we could see in the future of AI image generators and specifically with Jasper Art:
- More realistic and lifelike images (improvements to humans faces, hands, and human/animal legs)
- The ability to generate image sizes for specific purposes, such as social media, website design or marketing materials (different sizes)
- Faster generation time.
- More variation in results (provide more than 4 results)
- save generated style to create series of images that look similar (to use for book illustrations, or blog post series)
- capability to search in your history for commands and descriptions
- entering purpose of the art would be useful (ex. if you want negative space for marketing material)
Overall, we think Jasper AI is definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re interested in artificial intelligence or generating ideas for your next project. Just be warned that it can be addicting—and buggy—so use at your own risk!
